Onboard, there are few activities to engage in but the occasional onboard presentation (usually a lecture, or local dance or music troupe) draws a crowd. Evening music (typically a piano player) may or may not be popular depending on the crowd onboard. We use dedicated people and clever technology to safeguard our platform.

When it comes to size, even the smallest cabins on Viking's ocean ships are large by cruise ship standards at 270 square feet, and the largest suites measure nearly 1,500 square feet. Viking is also known for a relatively simple-to-understand array of subcategories of rooms within its balcony-cabin and suite categories. Unlike some cruise brands such as Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line, which offer as many as 36 different sub-types of cabins, Viking's ocean ships offer just six. Viking's ocean ships also offer a large number of suites, many of which are quite spacious.

If you want to be pampered for two weeks and make wonderful new friends, then Viking is the cruise line for you. Viking River Cruises emphasizes comfort over formality, with most people donning pullovers or button-up shirts, khakis, and blouse and pant or suit pairings. Even at the captain's welcome and farewell dinners, you won't see many men in suits (or even jackets for that matter) or women in fancy dresses. Despite its generally casual feel, jeans and shorts are not permitted at dinner.

They had my traveling companion on a different flight to Amsterdam. 3.5 hrs on the phone to get it straightened out and of course more $$ out of pocket. I finally just said I will get myself to Atlanta you get me to Amsterdam and back to Atlanta. So one leg of my prepaid trip is paid by me a second time.

The Cathedral Saint-Etienne in Sens was one of the first gothic cathedrals to be built in France, while Moret-Loing-et-Orvanne lets you visit the grandeur and magnificence of Fontainebleau. Barbizon has a fascinating eponymous art museum and the studios of Rousseau and Millet, who lived and worked here. Viking operates ships with a very easy-to-understand array of cabins, unlike some of its competitors. Other little touches in Viking cabins that show the line's attention to functionality include the large and clear lettering on the Freyja toiletries that you'll find in every Viking cabin bathroom. The St. Petersburg guides were most competent and informative. The ship’s crew was very warm, especially at the restaurant.
It seems the company has relationships with partner airlines and is able to typically find flights cheaper than you can do on your own. If you’re travelling by Eurostar, many cruise companies now offer regional airport and train station departures. Therefore, the price mentioned on the website can be different to what you actually pay. Plus offers come and go, so it’s always a good idea to look around before you book. Viking River Cruises are semi-inclusive, with at least one shore excursion per day, Wi-Fi, bottled water and all onboard meals (in all venues) included in the price of your cruise.
Viking also offers many balcony cabins and suites on its river ships — something that isn't always the case in the river cruise business, where space on vessels is at a premium. However, unlike its ocean ships, Viking's river ships aren't all-balcony-cabin vessels. Some can have as many as 25 cabins per ship that are below the waterline and have windows high in the walls. Viking's two expedition ships, Viking Octantis and Viking Polaris, also have three categories of balcony cabins with a similar array of amenities and services.

In the case of Deluxe Veranda Staterooms, staff replenishes these minibars once per day. Still, even on Viking's river ships, most cabins are balcony cabins. Viking is one of the only cruise brands in the world that offers a balcony with every cabin on every ocean ship it operates — even the least expensive, smallest cabins. That's something that even the most upscale of Viking's ocean cruise rivals — including Oceania Cruises, Azamara, Seabourn, Silversea Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises — can't say. So I recommend booking airfare through Viking (after doing a price comparison on your own, of course).

We arrived in the small, quaint town of Basel after our international flight. We had a wonderful time and especially loved how organized the entire Viking journey was, from pre-departure to on-board, everything was seamless.
They also have a different type of balcony that makes them feel more spacious than their square footage suggests. We have just returned from a wonderful cruise on Viking Sea from Athens to Venice. Unfortunately the airline lost our luggage for five days which was far from ideal but Viking staff provided us with toiletries and also laundered our clothes each evening returning them early next morning. Our cabin stewards, Angel and Rhuel went beyond the call of duty to help us out with a few other missing item. The food was very good, the cleanliness was excellent and most importantly, the Staff were lovely. We mainly did the included excursions and the guides were very knowledgeable and interesting.
All other cruise lines charge exorbitant internet fees and still have slow service. My favorite part of our floor was the coffee & espresso bar to grab pastries and java any time of day. I helped myself to endless madeleines and double dark chocolate muffins. Our Veranda stateroom was spacious, bright and airy with minimalist Nordic furniture and a cozy balcony.
The bottom line is that you'll be much less flummoxed when trying to choose the perfect cabin for you on a Viking ocean ship than when trying to choose a cabin on most other vessels. Stay current with special offers, news and destination-focused content. The views, the food, the staff...I couldn’t have asked for more during my much-anticipated vacation to China. We had the pleasure of sailing with Viking for the Heart of Germany cruise. It was our first cruise of any sort, and since we love Christmas markets, our travel agent recommended this Viking cruise. The staff were so gracious, friendly and helpful; they treated us like we were so important.
They have a handy map to show the journey along the Rhine River and make it easy to see what your options are each day. If you happen to pick an optional that conflicts with an included tour or a different optional tour, the website lets you know immediately. We chose to do 2 optionals and on the other days, relaxed on board or went into town to explore on our own!
We have just returned from Elegant Elbe, Berlin to Prague. We traveled with two close friends of ours and had a wonderful time. It goes against our guidelines to offer incentives for reviews. We also ensure all reviews are published without moderation. Booked a cruise with Viking (which was listed as requiring $25 down to book). Shortly thereafter, Viking wanted full payment for a cruise 1 year in the future.
The typical Viking river ship has nine suites broken down into two categories — 275-square-foot Veranda Suites and 445-square-foot Explorers Suites. This was our first river cruise, and the experience on Viking Forseti on the Châteaux, Rivers & Wine cruise has won us over. You will need to pay extra for tips, laundry and additional shore excursion offerings. On vessels with hair or spa services, or any retail offerings, you'll need to pay extra for these as well.
